Florida Remains In The Cone For Potential Tropical Cyclone 9

The system that is expected to become Tropical Storm Isaias is still being called Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine by forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

At 11 a.m. Wednesday, it was about 240 miles Southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico and 150 miles South Southeast of St. Croix with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour.

The speedy system is moving West Northwest at 23 miles per hour.

It won't be given tropical storm status until hurricane hunters find a closed center of circulation.

The official forecast track has moved further west and south than it was on Tuesday, but as of the latest from the NHC, the system would be over or near Key West on Saturday.

The track can change even more between now and then, so it's something folks in Florida and the Caribbean have to continue to watch.

On Thursday, the storm is forecast to move through Hispaniola, with its high mountain ranges, which could result in some deterioration, though the official forecast has it remaining a tropical storm once it emerges from the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
