Unconditional Statue May Not Stay Downtown, Sarasota Wants More Feedback...

We thought the matter of moving the statue was over... apparently, it's not.

The City of Sarasota says they want more feedback on keeping the “Unconditional Surrender.”

This past Tuesday...(9/15/20) Congressman Vern Buchanan tweeted that the ‘Unconditional Surrender’ statue will stay put, in downtown Sarasota along the bay.

Buchanan wrote an letter letting the city known, he had heard from an overwhelming amount of citizens in favor of keeping the statue in downtown Sarasota. defense of the artwork. He then tweeted that he had been contacted by Sarasota City Manager Tom Barwin.

The city of Sarasota plans to move the statue during construction of the new roundabout on U.S. 41 and Gulfstream Avenue, which is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2020. However, discussions began with in the city of relocating the statue, somewhere else, away from downtown Sarasota.

Yesterday, (916/20) the City of Sarasota tweeted a statement saying that although it appeared that keeping the statue appeared to make up the majority of public sentiment, they wanted to open up a conversation with the public.
