Florida Keys - Monroe County Meet Tomorrow (Tuesday, July 21st) to Discuss Canceling Mini-Season...

This past Friday (7-17-20), Islamorada Village of Islands announced on its website it will officially be closing all of its public parks, public beaches and public boat ramps from July 24 until Aug. 19. The popular two-day lobster "mini season" in Florida waters is July 29th-30th. Regular Lobster Season in Florida opens, August 6th.

Islamorada, is about halfway between Miami and Key West.

Islamorada's Order is as follows:"To supplement South Florida and Monroe County governmental efforts to reduce the community spread of COVID-19, Islamorada will close all public parks, public beaches, public boat ramps in the Village from Friday, July 24 through Wednesday, August 19, 2020. 

The closures do not affect private marinas and private boat ramps. If you have plans to attend Islamorada during 7/24/20 - 8/19/20, check in advance to make sure the facilities you will be using will be open.

What about other parts of the Florida Keys for the next several weeks?

Today (7/20/20) it was announced, that the Monroe County Commission will hold an emergency virtual meeting on Tuesday, July 21st, to discuss asking state fishery managers to cancel the two-day lobster mini-season next week and will consider more restrictions to stop the spread of the coronavirus in the Florida Keys

As in many other places throughout the State of Florida, Monroe County has mandated facemarks.

From the Monroe County website: "Monroe County requires all persons over the age of six to wear a facial covering whenever away from their home and unable to engage in social distancing. Every person over the age of six who is away from his or her residence shall carry a face-covering capable of immediate use."
