Over Memorial Day weekend, U.S. Army mechanic Keaton Tilson was trying to get home to his family in Illinois from his assignment in Texas – and was stranded at the airport for two days.
When a stranger at the airport named Josh Rainey heard the story, he offered to give up his ticket to Keaton.
It was a nice gesture, but it didn’t solve the problem – because the airline wouldn’t allow the two men to transfer the ticket.
Josh then took the extra step of buying Keaton a brand-new plane ticket that would help him get home without continuing to jump through hoops at the airport.
Because of Josh’s generosity, Keaton was able to land in St. Louis – and then take a car to a lake house in Illinois, where he was able to meet up with his family.
Keaton, who happens to be just 19 years old, said the experience gave him the sense that people still appreciate military service.
