A six-year-old girl from Russia who was born without lips or a chin had a life-changing operation and now she can finally smile.
Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London reportedly constructed a jaw for Darina Shpengler during an 11-hour surgery.
Doctors believe she suffers from a condition caused by “spontaneous mutations” and it affects her ability to eat and speak, as well as smile and laugh.
This surgery is the first of the procedures they say will give her a complete face. Darina’s mother, Elena, says, “This has changed our daughter completely and she learned to laugh.”
