Joanna says the “Are we gonna make it” questions are what they feared the worst, both professionally and personally. She says things were hard during the years before they did the show, when the housing crisis hit. But she says they kept pressing through and now she values those tough times because “the hard is what makes us appreciate this.”
The parents of five still work to strike a balance, especially now as they’re getting ready to launch their new cable network. And working so closely with your spouse isn’t always easy, even for these two. Chip acknowledges they aren’t perfect, but he says there’s a “secret ingredient” that keeps their marriage so strong. "Solid mutual respect," he shares. "A lot of hard work goes into this, but if you can get to a mutual place of respect, you can change the world."
