Paul Simon Gives Rare Permission For “AGT” Contestant To Sing His Song

Paul Simon doesn’t let just anyone sing his songs. That’s why it’s special that Simon gave the greenlight for a singer on “America's Got Talent”special permission to sing one of his songs. The live shows started yesterday, kicking off the first quarterfinal round from Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.

Singer Kodi Lee got a coveted Golden Buzzer for his performance for Simon's “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Lee is blind and has autism, and brought the judges to tears with his performance.

Judge Simon Cowell said Paul Simon never gives permission for anyone to sing the song, but allowed Lee to perform it after seeing his audition.

Cowell publicly thanked the icon for stepping up. "I want to thank Paul Simon, who never really gives permission for anyone to sing ('Bridge Over Troubled Water') because it's very precious to him, and he gave (Lee) clearance within 30 minutes."

Only seven of the 12 acts will advance to September's semifinals, adding more pressure for the remaining contestants to wow America.
