Florida Man Bitten While Prying Open Gator’s Jaws to Rescue His Dog

A Sarasota County Florida man did not hesitate when he realized a gator had grabbed his dog and pulled it into a canal near his home. According to ABC7, the man fearlessly jumped into the water and pried open the gator's jaws with his hands--freeing his chocolate lab. Lieutenant Rob Gerkin of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says both the man and the dog suffered minor injuries, but that this was a gator attack story with a happy ending. "Both will be fine, we got a happy ending with this, a good ending," Gerkin notes. "They don't always happen that way." A trapper was later called to the residence and removed a nine-foot-long alligator from the canal.
