US women's hockey team win gold at the Olympics

The United States women’s hockey team won the gold medal for the first time in 20 years on Thursday, beating rival Canada in a rematch of the 2014 gold medal game. While the U.S. took a 1–0 lead on a goal by Hilary Knight in the closing moments of the first period, Canada answered with two goals early in the second. American Monique Lamoureux responded by scoring with 6:21 to play in the final period, evening things at 2-2. The U.S. hit home in their first turn at the penalty shot, as Gigi Marvin scored. It went back and forth from there, until Jocelyn Lamoureux broke down the Canadian goalie in the sixth round to go up 3-2. American keeper Maddie Rooney stopped Meghan Agosta to lock up the win and snap Canada's streak of four straight Olympic golds. The U.S. hadn’t won a gold in women’s hockey since the inaugural tournament at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. USA!
