Lee County Deputy's Neighbor Arrested After Weekend Rampage

Lee County, FL - A Lee County Sheriff's deputy is fortunate to be unharmed after a terrifying encounter with a neighbor this weekend.

32-year-old Derek Weber faces a multitude of charges stemming from a series of attacks targeting the deputy's Hendry County residence.

The incident began on Saturday when Weber allegedly slashed the tires and damaged the windshield of the deputy's patrol car parked at his home.

The situation escalated dramatically on Sunday morning around 11:30 am.

Surveillance footage captured Weber driving his vehicle through the deputy's garage door before opening fire with a 9mm handgun.

According to Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden, Weber fired a total of 16 rounds.

Thankfully, the deputy and his son, who were inside the residence at the time, were not injured.

"In my opinion," Sheriff Whidden stated, "it takes a very mentally unstable person to do something like this, and it could have been bad. But he was quickly apprehended."

Deputies swiftly located and arrested Weber.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno commended his deputy's actions.

"My deputy is a hero," Sheriff Marceno declared. "He jumped into action to protect his family."

Weber is facing charges including attempted murder, burglary, property damage, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

This incident serves as a chilling reminder of the importance of swift action by law enforcement in the face of potential threats.
