Boca Raton City Council To Formally Introduce Train Station Proposal

The topic of a proposed Brightline train station was discussed at a city council workshop in Boca Raton Tuesday night.

Virgin Trains USA wants to build a station near the downtown library. Mayor Scott Singer says it would be a good thing for the city.

"The largest employers in the city have almost universally said that is a game changer and most of the residents I've heard have strong support for it."

But some residents have an issue with the 468-space parking garage that Virgin Trains wants the city to pay for. It would cost taxpayers an estimated 12 million dollars.

"Why are the taxpayers going to pay $12 million so Brightline can get this garage and then get the revenue?"

Others have noise and traffic concerns.

The proposal will be formally introduced at Wednesday's city council meeting, but no votes will be taken until next month.
