Florida Police Agency Rolls Out 911 Service for Smartphones

LARGO -- A police department in the Tampa Bay area says it's the first in Florida to roll out enhanced 911 service for the smartphone era. Largo police lieutenant Scott Gore says the system provided by a company called Carbyne allows dispatchers to access the camera and get a look at the scene.

The new system also has G-P-S that can pinpoint a caller to within six feet. It also allows silent messaging when speaking to a dispatcher would put a caller in danger. It went on line last week.
