Gov. DeSantis To Sign "Sanctuary Cities" Bill Into Law

Governor Ron DeSantis is set to sign a bill into law Friday that would ban so-called "sanctuary cities."

It will force local governments to "use their best efforts to support the enforcement of federal immigration law.

The bill will require local law enforcement to honor federal authorities' immigration detainer requests, in which the feds ask local authorities to hold people they believe to be in the country illegally.

A spokeswoman for the governor confirms today's signing and Republican Senator Joe Gruters, who sponsored the bill, said he will be in Okaloosa County with DeSantis for the bill-signing ceremony.

The governor promised to ban sanctuary cities while on the campaign trail.
