School group working to pay off student lunch debt

While the new school year doesn’t start for a number of weeks, an alumni group in South Carolina is doing their part to make things easier for students and their families when things get rolling again in the fall.

Former students of the Fort Mill School District have kept in touch since graduating. And this year, they organized a charity campaign to help kids pay off their student lunch debt.

They set up Angel Funds at each school and, amazingly, have already raised more than $5,000 -- which is almost half of the total student lunch debt in the district.

With plenty of time left before the first day of school, it’s very possible that they’ll raise enough money to wipe out all of the $12,000 in debt, allowing every student to start the new school year with a clean slate.
