Shopping cart race collects food for the needy

In Chicago, thousands of pounds of food were collected for the needy, thanks to a fun, loud and colorful shopping cart race.

The 14th annual CHIditerod race featured more than 100 teams, in costumes, pushing decorated shopping carts.

Each cart team consisted of five people. But more importantly, each team also brought at least 69 pounds of food to the event -- which was all donated to a local food bank.

The CHIditerod shopping cart race is believed to be the city’s largest single-day food drive.
