After 53 Years of Marriage, Texas Couple Dies Together While Holding Hands

Betty and Curtis Tarpley went to the same high school in Illinois, but didn't meet--or fall in love--until they both lived in California as adults. And on June 18, after 53 years of marriage, the Tarpleys died from coronavirus within an hour of each other at a hospital in Forth Worth, Texas, where they spent their final moments together holding hands in the ICU. While Betty and Curtis were "very weak" and unable to speak in the moments before their death, their son tells CNN, "Knowing that my mom was gonna go, it was okay for him to go...I honestly think they were so incapacitated that all they could do was talk with their souls or something, a special unspoken language. They obviously knew each other well enough that they could communicate without words."
