Monkeys Escape India Lab With COVID-19 Samples, Eat Them in a Tree

According to news reports in India, a gang of monkey recently escaped a lab at a medical college in the city of Delhi while making off with a handful of coronavirus test samples. Sky News reports that the gaggle of primates attacked a lab assistant to make their escape from a facility at Meerut Medical College before grabbing test samples from three patients and fleeing. At least one of the macaque monkeys was later seen in a tree chewing on one of the samples. People in India have been advised not to feed monkeys during the pandemic, with experts worried that doing so could cause the virus to mutate and infect primates. Reports have also emerged of primates causing chaos in Delhi during lockdowns, snatching food and smartphones, breaking into homes and terrorizing locals.
