Couple Donates Thousands of Shoes to Special Needs Kids

Over the past year, Adrienne and Anthony Byrd of Linthicum, Maryland, have been collecting shoes and socks from others in the community, with a goal of donating them all to kids with special needs.

They were inspired to conduct the shoe drive by their son, Xavier, who passed away in 2017 from a rare disease. They wanted to honor him -- on what would have been his 10th birthday -- with the donation, which they called “Kicks for X.”

Explaining that “shoes were his thing,” Adrienne and Anthony ended up with more than 1,700 pairs of shoes and socks -- and were able to deliver everything to a medical childcare center serving kids with health care needs or disabilities.

This was the third year the Byrd family donated shoes. And, they’re excited to see it all continue to get bigger and better in the years to come.
