Barbie Is Now A Robotics Engineer!
Mattel is releasing a new Barbie with a new career: Robotics Engineer Barbie, who also comes with a robot to interest girls in a specific STEM job they may not even know about yet.
She’s not the first Barbie with a career in science, technology, engineering, and math - remember Astronaut Barbie? But this one comes with that robot accessory that can bend and be reconfigured. Barbie partnered with Tynker, the gaming platform that teaches kids to code, to teach girls about careers as robotics engineers.
Robotics Engineering Barbie also comes in four ethnicities - African-American, Asian, Caucasian, and Latina - so many girls will be able to see themselves in her. And because this is a Barbie, fashion is important, too. She comes wearing pants and sneakers because she’s always on her feet and her hair is back in a ponytail, so she can work without distractions. The design team even worked with a female professor at MIT to make sure Barbie was dressed accurately.
